SLG-20 Quick Start Guide

SLG-20 Retractable Landing Gear for custom drones Quick Start Guide

This quick start guide is for users who purchased the SLG-20 Retractable Landing Gear modules for integration onto a custom drone. For Alta X users, please go to the SLG-20-AX Quick Start Guide which has specific instructions for your aircraft.

Safety Notice

The SLG-20 is a mechanical system driven by a powerful servo motor. The servo motor has very high torque and the potential to cause serious injury. SLG-20 users must be aware and alert to the risks involved in using the SLG-20. The primary safety risks include injury due to unexpected actuation of the servo motor and mechanism.

Whenever the SLG-20 is powered, the user should use caution and keep hands well clear of the mechanism. Any maintenance on the SLG-20 should be performed with power removed.

Mounting

If you are retrofitting the SLG-20's onto a drone which previously used DJI M600/S800 retractable landing gear, make sure you have purchased our SLG-20 DJI Adapter plate. This Adapter plate will allow you to use the same hole pattern for mounting.

For any other integration, refer to our Mounting and Hole Patterns page for details on how to mount the modules to your drone.

Power

The SLG-20 Control Board requires a high current power source between 10-26v. Refer to our Electrical page for more details on the power requirements. We recommend purchasing the power supply we offer, which we have tested to work with the system.

Receiver signal

The SLG-20 is controlled by PWM via a servo wire. If using four SLG-20 modules on your drone (two control boards) you will need one servo wire to each control board. These servo cables should be wired to the radio receiver and configured to output the correct PWM signal.

A PWM Signal between 800-1200 will lower the legs, and 1800-2300us will raise the legs. The radio receiver should be configured so a loss of signal causes the legs to lower. For more information, refer to Input Signal Requirements.

Post Installation Testing

With the legs fully removed from the SLG-20 tube clamps, use the radio controller to raise and lower the mechanism. Verify that all four mechanisms move smoothly. Ensure that for each pair of legs connected to one control board, that the mechanisms move in a synchronized fashion. With the legs raised, turn off the radio controller and verify that the legs lower automatically.

These tests should be done after installation but do not need to be done as part of routine pre flight testing.

Pre-Flight Testing

Install the legs into the SLG-20 tube clamps and test that the legs move smoothly both UP and DOWN. Check that when the legs are raised, the springs are under a small amount of tension.

Users should routinely initiate this pre-flight test before every flight, as the aircraft is being setup.
