How to Install the Brain Bay into the Alta X

How to install the Brain Bay into the Alta X Bay 2.

The Alta X Brain Bay is designed to be installed into Bay 2 of the Alta X. Bay 2 is located at the front of the aircraft, to the left of the HD FPV Camera Bay.

Installing the Alta X Brain Bay

The Alta X Brain Bay Kit Includes

  • 1x Brain Bay Housing and PCB

  • 1x Alta X Pull Door

  • 1x Power Cable: XT30 to JST-PH 2-Pin

  • 1x Power Cable: XT60 to JST-PH 2-Pin

  • 1x PWM/SBUS Breakout Wire Harness

  • 1x Alta X Brain Bay and kit contents

  • 2x Rubber Grommets

Tools

  • 2mm Metric Hex Driver

Goals

  • Replace the Side Closeout Panel in Alta X Bay 2 with an Alta X Pull Door.

  • Install and connect the Alta X Brain Bay to the Alta X External UART (IO 3) and the HD FPV Camera Bay.

Connect the MAVTx Telemetry Cable between the Alta X External UART and the Brain Bay.

  1. At the Alta X IO Bay 3 (External Expansion Panel UART), remove the Pull Door.

  2. Insert the MAVTx Telemetry Cable (JST-GH 6-pin connector) through the right front grommet opening on the Pull Door.

  3. Plug the cable into the UART located in IO Bay 3.

  1. Reattach the Pull Door to IO Bay 3, ensuring the MAVTx Telemetry Cable remains connected to the aircraft.

  1. Route the MAVTx Telemetry Cable externally from IO Bay 3, leading it under the Aircraft bay and into the Alta X.

  1. Guide the cable internally through the bottom of the Alta X frame and to the back of Bay 2.

How to Power the HD FPV System

Power Input Connection

  1. Power Input Cable:

    • Use either the supplied XT60 or XT30 cable.

    • Connect the cable to a 7.4V - 25.2V power source.

    • Recommended: Use the Freefly Systems 12V DC to DC Regulator for Alta X.

  2. Brain Bay Power Input:

    • Plug the JST-PH 2-pin connector into the brain bay power input within the Alta X.

How to Install the Alta X Brain Bay.

  1. Undo the (2x) M3 x 12 Cap Head Screws and the Alta X Side Closeout Panel from Bay 2. Set these aside for later.

  2. Install Rubber Grommets into ALTA X Bay 2. We use a 2mm driver to help install the Rubber Grommets.

  3. Install the XT30 or XT60 to JST-PH 2-pin cable (whichever one is required for your 7.4V - 25.2V power supply) inside the ALTA X with the JST-PH 2-pin connector routed to the ALTA X Bay 2.

  4. Plug in the JST-PH 2-pin connector to the Brain Bay power input.

  5. Plug the MAVTx Telemetry Cable into the Brain Bay UART, located in Bay 2 of the Alta X.

  6. Plug in the MAVTx video telemetry cable and the fan power cable from the camera bay at this time.

  7. To use the 3x user-configurable PWM outputs, install the PWM/SBUS Breakout Wire Harness into the PWM/SBUS breakout port on the Brain Bay PCB.

  1. Using (2x) M3x 6 Button Head Screws, install the Brain Bay into Bay 2.
